SourcePoint’s Grant Supports Lifelong Learning, Brain Health
DELAWARE—In July, SourcePoint awarded a $10,000 grant to the Lifelong Learning Institute of Ohio Wesleyan University. The funds helped support the institute’s start-up costs, including the hiring of a part-time director, promotion, printing of course materials, and fall term evaluation.
The Lifelong Learning Institute is modeled after similar programs at campuses across the country. Volunteers teach courses in a relaxed, peer-centered environment. Topics are designed to appeal to those ages 55 and older.
“We’re excited to be part of this initiative,” said Fara Waugh, SourcePoint’s executive director. “Lifelong learning benefits our entire community, and helps older adults remain active and healthy. We’re proud to join forces with community partners, such as the Delaware County Foundation, Ohio Wesleyan University, Willow Brook Christian Communities, and numerous volunteers, to make this option available in Delaware County.”
The first term of the LLI launches Monday, Sept. 23 and features nine courses. Registration was successful with 257 individuals signing up, some for multiple classes. Registration is closed for fall term. Those interested in future terms can sign up for email updates at owu.edu/lli
